You might not have noticed but your “local watchmakers” are becoming scarce. This is because there a lack of tradesman coming through and learning the trade. With a large percentage of watchmakers retiring in the next five years, I have outlined a list of why you should support you local independent watch repairer.
You know who is repairing your watch and you can talk with them directly - Large brands don’t allow you to talk with your watchmaker and all communication is often done via front end admin staff. Sometimes they may not be able to answer some of your more complex questions and explain what exactly your watch requires. This can often lead to frustration. By using an independent watchmaker you can talk with them directly and foster a relationship.

You are supporting local small business. By supporting local business the money directly helps me to grow my business and provide for my family. Profits aren’t shifted overseas like large multinational conglomerates.
You save money compared to when you send your watch to the brand service centers. More often than not I charge less than what it would cost to get your watch serviced at an authorized service center. I also provide the same, if not longer, warranty for servicing work.
If you have any problems with your watch it is easy to get it fixed. Being able to talk with the watchmaker about what is wrong and how to fix it can give you reassurance. Should you have any warranty issues it’s as easy as getting on the phone or popping in.
