Tag Heuer Carrera Watch Repair

Tag Carrera Watch repair

A Tag Heuer Carrera, automatic watch recently came in for repair. Upon initial inspection it presented a couple of problems.

  • It was missing the crown (part used to change the time and date)

  • It had moisture, dirt and some dust in the watch.

  • The watch wasn’t holding the power reserve

  • The inside of the glass display back had a dark powder on it

Basically the watch was due for a service. The watch is approximately 7 years old, which is when most watches should have a service. It was showing signs of wear and had some cosmetic issues.

What did I do?

  • I pulled the watch completely apart, cleaned off all the old oils and greases. I replaced:

    • The crown and stem

    • Seals

    • Both reversing wheels

    • Mainspring

    • Rotor bearing

    • I cleaned the watch movement and case.

    • I refinished the watch movement and case to make it look nice and new

    • I assembled the watch back together, regulated it for timekeeping and pressure tested it.

    • The watch is now testing for time keeping and checking it’s power reserve.

These photos are great examples of before and after. I haven’t polished the watch to what I consider perfect. There are still some minor dings and scratches, this is because I am not charging the customer but felt he might like a shiny surprise when he gets his watch back.
