Rolex 1570 Automatic Repair

Recently I undertook a big service/restoration job for a Rolex 1570. This watch had very low amplitude (180 degrees) and numerous issues including:

  • worn balance jewels

  • a broken jewel in the automatic section

  • a loose pallet stone which needed to be shellaced back in

  • damaged center seconds pinion

  • the hairspring was touching the underside of the bridge.

Often what adds to the complexity of a repair or service is some of the marks that other watchmakers can leave over time. You can see some examples of this in the first picture below. Do you see how the plate is scratched? This can sometimes create problems and introduce faults.

During the repair I replaced the mainspring and a few other components with all original parts, and resolved the issues above. You can see from the second picture below that once I’d finished the watch is looking great, it’s doing 309 degrees and only gaining two seconds per day - well within the Rolex chronometer rating.

I take pride in my work and believe in looking after your watch for generations to come.
