What's Involved In Repairing A Watch

All watchmakers talk about servicing, but it can be helpful to know what is actually involved in a service and what work will be done to your watch. It’s always good to know you’re getting bang for your buck.

Depending on the type of watch you have, this process may differ slightly but generally speaking a watch service will involve:

  • preliminary checks of the case and band for any kind of damage

  • a water resistance check

  • full disassembly of case and band components including: glass, crown, bezel and seals

  • removal of dial and hands

  • complete disassembly of watch movement,

  • each part individually inspected for any signs of damage, excessive wear or rust

  • cleaning of watch parts, case and band in numerous solutions and/or ultrasonics

  • re-inspection of watch parts after cleaning and further attention if required

  • re-assembly of the watch movement and lubrication

  • timing and regulation

  • final assembly of dial, hands and casing components

  • final checks and testing phase.

During each step of the process, I carefully check parts to ensure the highest quality repair and service. After the watch has been reassembled, the watch undergoes thorough testing to check proper function before being returned to the owner. All services and seal kits come with a two year warranty for peace of mind.

The photo on the left is an example of how many parts are in a simple watch. each part must be carefully put back together. I recommend servicing your watch every 5 to 10 years to avoid excessive wear.
