Omega "Pie-Pan" Constellation Watch Repair

The Omega Pie-Pan Constellation was originally released in 1952 as a Men’s Chronometer. To be classed as a chronometer, the average timekeeping requirements for the first 10 days of testing ranges from -4 seconds to +6 seconds a day. This is an extraordinary requirement of a mechanical watch, even more so for the 1950’s.

Some notable features of the Omega Constellation collection is the star and it’s name above the 6 O’clock position, along with the 12 sided angular dial. The Constellation collection also features the Geneva Observatory with 8 stars on the case backing, signifying it’s status as a chronometer. The Constellation comes in a number of different band and metal options such as platinum, white gold, rose gold, yellow gold and steel to name a few.

The Constellation has also seen many different mechanical movements over the years, these include the calibre 351, 352, 354, 500, 501, 505 and lastly in 1966; the calibre 564 for date models. In 1982 Omega released the Constellation “Manhattan” powered by a quartz movement as opposed to a mechanical movement. In 1984 Omega released an automatic version alongside quartz with the chronometer certified calibre 111. The Manhattan Constellation is particularly identified by it’s “claws” positioned at 3 and 9 O’clock. Similar to the Pie-Pan, the Manhattan was offered in a wide range of metals to both men and women. The Manhattan is best known for it’s integrated metal strap.

The price of a second-hand Omega Pie-Pan Constellation has increased in recent years, with examples in reasonably good condition able to be picked up for around $2500 to $4000 AUD.
