Vintage Omega Seamaster 60m - Watch Repair
Ref 166.062
A very nice Omega Seamaster 60m reference 166.062 came in recently for repair. It was in need of some much needed love. The glass was scratched, the baker lite bezel was damaged and the movement had seen better days. Omega made this watch with three colour dial options: black, blue and a deep red.
The watch came in a little worse for wear. The owner had taken a punt on it. We wanted to keep it original which meant polishing the existing glass and bezel rather than replacing. To make things harder, this particular watch had the glass and bezel rusted on. I explained the risks around removing it to the customer, and we went ahead. I took many precautions removing both the glass and the bezel and thankfully they came off without any damage… phew! After removing, onto polishing, and because of the fragile nature of the glass and bezel this process was incredibly tedious and done by hand for a large portion of the time.
As with all vintage omega repairs I like to get the amplitude up high so your watch runs well. To do this I had to replace numerous components and make some adjustments to the hairspring and beat error. This watch in particular has gained popularity in recent years, the great looking dials along with the over sized crown make it stand out from the vintage pack.
I’ve included a before and after of this repair below - considering we kept the original glass and bezel, it’s looking pretty good after a bit of TLC.
