How much does it cost to get a vintage Omega serviced?

Vintage Omega watches have grown in popularity over recent years. This has led to a surge in price for vintage and second hand Omegas. Regular servicing and maintenance every 5 to 7 years will ensure the correct maintenance and that your timepiece will last for years to come.

Unlike modern watches, vintage watches can often be expensive and time consuming to repair. Many factors come into play when repairing vintage watches. These include

  • Provenance and sentimental value

  • Availability of spare parts

  • To polish or not to

  • Value and collectability

  • water resistance

  • time keeping and accuracy

  • Overall condition and wear

At OBR Horology I believe that when it comes to repairs and servicing, it’s my responsibility to give you honest and non biased information, so that you can make an educated decision moving forward. For example, there are issues around polishing and the effect that can have on the value of your timepiece, if not done correctly. I always consult the client first and have a conversation about what’s the best way to proceed, what I can and can’t do, and how it will affect the value of your timepiece.

I use NOS (or New Old Stock) vintage Omega parts when needed to replace worn, damage or broken components. If a part can be saved, I’ll do so and for some clients, originality is always a priority.

Costs to repair vintage Omegas can vary significantly - it depends on the model, whats the issues are, how long it’ll take and the cost of spare parts. Vintage Omega repairs at OBR Horology start at $600 with a minimum time allocation of 6 hours required. Costs of parts can vary significantly with some vintage glasses costing over $200.

When servicing vintage watches, numerous precautions are taken to preserve and maintain your watch. This includes basic things like wearing finger cots, using dial protection when removing hands, having sharp screw drivers and tweezers so as to not damage or scratch parts.

When the repair is all finished, it is not uncommon for the cost to be around or over $1000. But, for that price what the client gets is a watch that is restored to a high standard and will be right for years to come. After a good service and repair, a watch can look and feel like new again. Taken care of correctly these watches can last generations, but if they’re not taken care of correctly the watch can be damaged and ruined forever. Protect your investment and valuable timepiece by keeping it in tip top condition. Your grandkids might thank you for it!
